ZHULIAN Corp Bhd (5131) will invest RM18 million this year to expand its international headquarters in Bayan Lepas Industrial Estate, Penang, as part of its initiatives to propel future growth. In a statement in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Zhulian said the expansion involved the building of a bigger warehouse and a new manufacturing plant. The project was expected to be completed by end-2010, it said.

Zhulian said it has three plants in Bayan Lepas, one of which has commenced operations last July. "The RM40 million new facility, which specialises in the manufacturing of food and beverage products as well as nutritional supplements, is currently 50 per cent utilised and has the capacity to support the company's growth for the next five years," it said. Zhulian said it planned to launch a series of products this year to generate continuous excitement and interest among consumers.

Meanwhile, group managing director, Danny Teoh Meng Keat, said revenue for the first quarter ended February 28 2009 grew by 16 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. For the financial year ended November 30 2008, Zhulian's pre-tax profit rose to RM94.9 million from RM74.3 million previously. - Bernama
